School Travel Plan

What is a School TravelPlan?

A School Travel Plan is a document produced by pupils, parents, school staff and governors, in partnership with the community and Sheffield City Council, to manage its methods and resources for getting children to and from school safely.  All schools must have a plan by 2010.

The main reason for writing a School Travel Plan is to reduce the number of cars on the school run every morning and encourage other modes of transport such as walking, cycling and public transport.  However, this is by no means their only aim.  They should also include realistic and achievable aims that will improve children’s health and safety, education, the school environment and help in combating social exclusion.  Watch this space for further updates, events and activities.

STARS - School Travel Activity Reward Scheme

STARS is an accreditation scheme providing an incentive to schools to maintain interest and momentum in Travel Plan issues.

Awards range from 1 STAR to 5 STARS (with a special Gold Star award available for exceptional progress) depending on the number of points achieved during the year.  Schools collect points throughout the year by implementing and progressing their School Travel Plan.  Bankwood has acheived the following points so far.
