About our School

Bankwood Community Primary School is a mixed Community Primary School for children aged 4+ to 11.  There are about 300 children on roll.  There are two classes in each year group and all classes are below 30 in total.  There are no mixed-age classes.  We see your child's education as a partnership between home and school.  There are many opportunities for you to share in your child's progress and we hope that the years at Bankwood will be happy for all your family.

Starting School

Children start statutory education at Bankwood in Foundation (2).

Children's Centre

Bankwood Children's Centre is now open.  Due to popular demand there is a waiting list.  There are FOUR sessions per day.  The Centre can accommodate 52 full time equivalent places.

Security and Safety

The children's safety are our first concern.  Please note that the only access into our school after 9.00am is by the Main Junior entrance and that visitors must check in at the Main Office.  There is a CCTV system to monitoring the entire school.  The gates are closed at the start (8.45am to 9.25am) and end of school (2.45pm to 3.25pm) to prevent cars from entering the premises when children are moving around.

Dogs

Dogs are not permitted on any part of the school site, at any time.

The School Day

School starts at 8.50am and children are allowed into classrooms up to ten minutes before this.  You are invited to stay with them to settle them or hear them read until the bell rings.  Lunch time is from 12.00am to 1.00pm and school closes at 3.10pm.

School Uniform

The uniform is a very attractive Blue sweat shirt with a white polo shirt and dark trousers or skirts as our.  We do not allow the wearing of clothing which has offensive wording or designs or the wearing of branded trainers.  For safety reasons no rings, chains, looped or hanging earrings are allowed.  Please ensure that all clothing. especially uniform is named.

Healthy Eating

We encourage children to eat a healthy diet and banned all sweets and fizzy drinks from school.  We sell a variety of crisps at the tuck shop before school in the morning.  Chewing gum is strictly prohibited.  The School is a no smoking area.

Absence

If your child is too ill to attend school you should either ring school to inform us on that day or write a note to explain the absence when your child returns to school.  If you wish your child to have time off for any other reason please contact the headteacher.  Please note that no more than two weeks absence can be sanction in any school year for any reason other than sickness.

Dinner Money

Our high-quality meals are cooked on the premises.  Dinner money is collected daily in class, but a full week's money can be sent on Mondays.  Please ensure that is placed in an envelope with the child's name, the amount and the days clearly marked.  If you presently receive benefit, your child may be eligible to receive free-school-meals.

Milk

Milk is available to all children in third pint cartons.  There is a charge for this, payable each term during the first week, unless your child is eligible for free-school-meals or is not yet 5, in which case there is no charge.

Secondary Schools

Most children who leave Bankwood are offered a place at Newfield or Myrtle Springs Schools, depending where you live.  If you wish your child to attend a different secondary school, please see the headteacher who will give you an application form, once you have received the initial offer when your child is in Y6.
